HI SU pro 2025, and all files in dropbox marked to be both local and in dropbox.
I update a Skp file, saves and close - dropbox marks as both updated in cloud and local.
Open previous linked lay-out file, marks the outdated skp file choose update - but sometimes the things I changed in skp file does not show up in layout viewports.
Open previous linked lay-out file, marks the outdated skp file in preferences and hit relink. Windows open, but the file in the folder is still with the old date ! I choose it anyways, and after updating viewport, the changes might be changede, and other times changes in file do NOT update in viewports.
Same proceedure, but I start by unlinking the skp file in layout preferences, so it changes to embedded. Then hit relink - skp file in folder is still with the old date - I choose it, and changes might show up in viewports - or it might not.
For both 2 and 3 when choosing the old-date skp file - because it´s the only one found in folder by lay-out for some reasson. The file will afterwards show in preferences with the new date and time. So I have the new file linked - but still the changes might show up in viewports - or it might not.
Any ideas ? I know some of you will say “do not use Cloud for files” but that should not cause the problem here, because all files are marked to be in both Cloud AND local - as I see it..
Put the LayOut file and all of the associated references in a folder that is only located on the internal drive. No link to DropBox at all. Do you get the same behavior then?
When I do that and open layout I will have to relink to the new location of the Skp file - and the link window shows no files to link to in the new local folder - even though it IS there………………
Do you have File Explorer set up to show file extensions? I suspect what you’ve done is copy the .skb backup file instead of the .skp working file. LayOut will not show the .skb file when relinking.
You shouldn’t even see the .skb files in File>Open in SketchUp. It should only present the .skp.
You can rename the file to .skp but to be on the safe side you should also change the filename itself to avoid overwriting the original .skp file.
That’s a setting on Windows I believe. You can change the icon for the .skb files if you want. Do a web search for the steps to do that.
Going forward, keep the file extensions displayed. I would also sort by file type so the .skb and .skp files aren’t right next to each other in File Explorer. I changed it for my previous screen shot but I normally keep them separated.
I would also suggest that you create project folders on your internal drive for each project. Keep the SketchUp model file(s) and other references along with the LayOut file in that folder. Do that at the start and you won’t be chasing around fixing reference links. It seems like most of your issues can be fixed with a more organized approach starting right at the beginning of your project.
