Insert objects into a Tag

I do all my dimensioning in Layout.

I use Tags to identify objects or specific parts of objects
I use Outliner to identify locations of objects or groups of objects that may have need to be identified together. Often by location.

Speaking of cabinetry.

Kitchen and Bath cabinets may be a group of several cabinets identified in Outliner
Outliner may appear as below:

Kitchen Cabinets (All Kitchen Cabinetry) ( refers to SU Groups) Upper cabinets
–Upper Cabinets
----Cbnt Upper 1
----Cbnt Upper 2
–Lower Cabinets
----Cbnt Lower 1
----Cbnt Lower 2
–Bathroom Cabinets
---- Sink Cabinet
----Linen Cabinet (constructed as two boxes)
------Lower Linen Cabinet
------Top Linen Cabinet

Tags might be

Cabinet Assembly (Tag Folder)
– Cbnt Assy (Tag)
–Cabinet Body (Tag Folder)
----Cbnt Body (Tag)
----Cbnt Sides (Tag)
----Cbnt Top (Tag)
----Cbnt Bottom (Tag)
----Cbnt Shelves (Tag)
– Door and Drawer faces (Tag Folder)
----Door Faces (Tag)
----Drwr Faces (Tag)
– Drawer Boxes (Tag Folder)
---- Drwr Box (Tag)
----Drwr Bottom (Tag)
----Drwr Sides (Tag)
---- Drwr Front and Back (Tag)

Using the above Outliner and Tag combos every part and assembly can be identified as to item or part name (Tagged) and location (Outliner Group).

The key thought is
Parts and Items are Tagged
Locations are defined in Outliner

Disclaimer: There is no “Correct or Incorrect” procedure for using Tags and Outliner. The method I use works for me and carries over to smooth workings in Layout.

Look at my comments in this post from some time back.
“Tags and Tag Folders - Here we go again”
You will find my method to display tags in an hierarchical manner organised by tag folders.
This scheme works to find desired tags in the “entity info” panel.

Dear Rkleins

Thank you !!
I understand your “simple” structure.
The sample file is good to understand.

Question
In Layout,
I frequentry find un-linked dimenstion.
I may re-group something in Sketchup.
In this case,
in Layout, I found many un-linked dimenstions.
I have to make all dimenstion again.
This take lot of waste time.
Do you have similar experience ?

Because…
First I made a cabinet + layout
but after few weeks,
When I got new idea, and I change new design.
I may destory many groups. and re-groups.
Layout lost many dimenstion linking…
I have to fix many un-linked dimenstion .
I tired this process in Layout.
so… I focus Sketchup only.

But…without Layout
If I do not use Layout, My sketchup file change to like that : )
but I have no worry about unlinking dimenstion in Layout.

I am using many components ( 1 board = component, 1 drawer = component, 1 cabinet box = component ) so, If I copy a cabinet box , all cabinet is connected. Editing is easy.

Scene B

Scene C…

I believe,
without layout, I can be happy : )
because Our factory can check CAD without paper.
and I have no worry about un-linked dimenstion in Layout.

If worker need paper ?
ok, I will give screenshot ,
or Layout file without (dimension in Layout)

Anyway, Thank you !
I will use Outliner more !
