Individual Grid Spacing for Photo Matching would be useful

At the moment SketchUp only allows for adjusting the grid spacing uniformly across the axes, but a lot of times in the images I capture that I use this function with I will have measured site features that aren’t the same. This is especially the case with regards to the vertical/blue axis values vs. the horizontal.

I think it would be useful if we could have a enable/disable check box for uniform grid spacing, with the disabled value lets us specify individual axis grid values. I imagine in most cases the horizontals would be the same, so perhaps when the uniform option is disabled its value is placed in all three as the default so users would only have to change the vertical value.

I don’t have an opinion about the grid spacing but I wonder, do you use the grids regularly? I found them less than accurate in my work and choose to set the size by tracing a known dimension and using the Tape Measure tool to resize the model.

You know, I use that method for 2D images (usually they’re basic diagrams I pull from a spec/cut sheet, but I’ve never used it on an image that has a vanishing point.

I did a quick example. The edge is shown in green. After setting up the Match Photo settings and clicking Done, I drew in that edge and used it to resize the model including the image.

Interesting. So you used image matching but then scaled the entire thing using tape measure. I guess I figured the matched photo wouldn’t scale if you took this approach…I don’t know why I thought that…

Yes. I’ve always done it this way. No need to set a grid interval and it works for an length. In the case of my example the width of the bricks where the green edge is drawn measures 77-1/4". Can you imagine working with the grid interval set to 1/4 inch?
