Importing Polycam DAE file into SketchUp

Hi there,

I’ve created a 3d model in Polycam of a settee using the ‘Generate a 3D model from a photo’ feature - it’s not perfect, but it’ll do for my purposes. I’m using the Pro version of Polycam so I can download in a file format that SketchUp will support.

I downloaded my file in DAE format, and I received a zip folder with the .dae file and another folder labelled textures that had a single .png file in it.

I’m using SketchUp Pro in an Edge browser (I can’t use a desktop version, nor can I use extensions). When I went to import the .dae file, in the Import Collada pop-up, I had the options ‘Validate Collada file’ and ‘Merge coplanar faces’. I set both to Yes, but after it processed my file and adding it to my room model, it only showed the settee without the textures/colours.

I’ve also tried exporting my settee as a .stl file, but nothing was visible when I tried importing it into SketchUp; and as a .gltf/.glb file, but SketchUp showed an error when I tried to import it, saying it was an unsupported file type.

I’ve seen other people have a similar issue and the suggestion was using Blender, which I have little to no experience with. I want to check if there’s something else I should try or if there’s just something wrong with my .dae/Polycam file.

Thanks!

If you use a version of SketchUp in a web browser, and you want the imported model to also be textured, import the ZIP file, not just the DAE one.

Well I feel stupid… thank you! That has worked.
