Import a 4-tabs .dwg files results in warning and (almost) nothing imported

Dear community,

I have a .dwg file that when open in CADReader shows four tabs, called Model, Layout1, Layout2, Layout3. Attempting to import it, SketchUp warns me:

Warning:

Some imported geometry is extremely far from the
model origin. If you experience any instability with
your SketchUp model, please delete that geometry
from your .dwg/.dxf file and import again.

AutoCAD Entities Imported:

Layers: 22
Blocks: 3
3d Faces: 53
Arcs: 288
Inserts:	3
Lines: 17

2d Poly-lines:	165

AutoCAD Entities Simplified:

AutoCAD Entities Ignored:

Texts: 288
Dimensions: 1
Images: 56
Anonymous Blocks: 4

Upon importing it, in any import configuration, I see a number of + shaped crosses, nothing else, regardless of the view.

What I really need is but the topography in the Model tab. I’ll attach the .dwg in question, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

LEVANTAMIENTO TN LOTE 5 SAYULITA (2).dwg (1.0 MB)

Sketchup imports just whatÂŽs on the model tab, Layouts are for documentation creation that uses viewports of the model tab to scale them, adding dimensions, texts, etc. like the way you can create documents for construction on SketchupÂŽs Layout.

After deleting the guide points tags and using zoom extents this is what I see.

HereÂŽs the skp file with the dwg imported.

ImportaciĂłn Corregida.skp (431.6 KB)

Muchas gracias Francisco! How did you do that? Did you delete those guide points tags in an editor, editing the .dwg file prior to importing it? I still don’t get anything but this (luckily I now have your file, but I’d really like to learn how to):

Here’s the (bad) file:

Importación sin corregir.skp (424.5 KB)

Thanks again!

De nada.

I just imported the dwg file from sketchup, I used the outliner to select something on the model that wasn’t the guide points and used zoom to selection to be able to see what I selected on the outliner, I deleted the guide points after checking there were no other objects in that group and purged the unused tags, it deleted two tags that were assigned to those guide points.

It could be also done on any cad software, I recommend you to use QCad which is free and more than enough to do that kind of tasks, or QCad pro which costs like $40 for a perpetual license and has some extra useful tools like import PDF’s as vector lines.

Ok, thanks. I still can’t, but I suppose I have some fundamentals on .dwg files to learn, so I’ll stop asking and do some digging. Thanks so much for helping me out with the file you created!

You’re welcome, I recommend you to visit the SketchUp Campus website, it has free courses created by SketchUp official trainers and team members, also the YouTube channel is helpful to learn how to use the native tools and features.

If you have to create a terrain out of the contour lines I suggest you to try Fredo’s plugin Toposhaper, it delivers better results than sandbox imo.

Just out of curiosity, do you speak Spanish and German? The name of the dwg file was in Spanish and your user name is german for job.

Thanks again. I’ll have a closer look at the Campus, there’s really a lot I need to learn. Also for the toposhaper, although for my present purpose, the sandbox did the job well enough.

Saludos!
