I need help with Scale

Hi, I am a student know the basics of SketchUp, a friend has asked for some help and I now need your help if possible.

I have been given a SKP file and asked to supply them at a scale of 1:50 or 1:100. The elevations need a scale so these can be measured. At present there is no scale.

I would’ve used AutoCAD but the files available are SketchUP only. How would I find out what scale the existing files are, and how would i demonstrate them as 1:50? There was mention of a Scale Bar but I couldn’t fathom this, since I didn’t know what size I am starting from.

Any help would be appreciated.

everything in sketchup is scale 1:1

some softwares like autocad manage the paper output internally, in sketchup it’s external, in a tool named layout (automatically installed with SU pro)

the basic steps are :

  • in sketchup, prepare your desired view and make a scene of it. Maybe it’s a top view, parallel, with a minimalist style to have black lines and white background.
  • in layout, you can insert your sketchup file. upon selecting it, in the sketchup panel on your right you’ll be able to change things. scale, line thickness, vector / raster output…
  • from there, you can scale the design at 1:50, adjust the size on paper, add dimensions and elements if needed, and export as pdf.

non basic steps can be found here

there are a couple of free courses about layout

Thank you for your detailed response. I will give it a go!

This is the file I was sent, so I’ll open layout and go from there.
