“Hello, my SketchUp file (YAzid Primo.skp) is corrupted. WinRAR can open it as a ZIP64 volume and shows ‘materials’ and ‘meta’ folders, but SketchUp gives an ‘Unable to open file’ error. Could you please help me recover the geometry? Thank you!”
Thanks for reply, I really hope that he can figure this out, because I need this file badly, and I have to render it to show it to my clients. Thank you so much
When looking at a SketchUp model with a hex editor, you soon know if it is mostly empty or not. For when it’s not empty, then look for ‘model.dat’. That should appear twice in the file, once somewhat into the data, the other one is at the very end.
If they are both there, the file should be ok. If the second one has a lot of data after where it is, it’s something that I might be able to recover.
For times when the first one is there, but there is no second one, an unknown amount of data is missing from the end. Fairly good chance not much can be recovered.
In your file’s case, there isn’t even a first entry for model.dat. Which means a lot of data is missing.
Look in the folder where the .skp is, and see if there is a same named file, with an .skb file extension. If it is a lot bigger than the .skp, it would have some hope of being ok. Try renaming that file and change the extension to .skp, and see if that opens ok.
Thankyou colin for reply, I guess I have to model it one more time but next time I’ll be so meticulous for saving my files, thank you so much bro cheers
