Yes. Two ways. You can import the image into SketchUp and use the various drawing tools to trace it to create the geometry so you have a face you can extrude.
Another way would be to edit the image in an image editor to remove the garbage and make the background transparent. Save it as a .png file. Import that image into SketchUp and save the file. Then use Image Trimmer from the SKM Tools extension by TIG, available from Sketchucation to trim the image and create the geometry. Edit the resulting component and use Push/Pull to extrude it.
A higher resolution image would be desirable here.
Thank you Dave! I looked for the extension.
I was hoping for a builtin tool or a plug-in available through Extension Warehouse and not a monthly expense for one extension. I did just model it with the drawing tools and it was just fine. It only took a few minutes…I was being lazy.
My normal method is to find an EPS or other file of a logo to generate a path in Pshop to export an Ai file to 3DS MAX then extrude the shape but recently my 3DS MAX is corrupted and I don’t have time to delete it and reinstall for this job.
What are you talking about? There is no monthly expense, or any expense at all for the SKM Tools extension. TIG makes it available at no charge. You can make a donation but it is not required.
If you are talking about a paid membership at Sketchucation, that’s optional too. Right at the top center of the page is a button to click for a free account. There are benefits for premium members but it’s not a requirement to be a premium member.
WOW!!! I skimmed over it and missed that! GREAT! Thanks again!
