How to simplify a model or merge lines?

Hi, imported a model in DAE format, it created too much details and makes a huge file where it is so slow to work.

I used “Clean Up” plugin, let the PC ran for 36 hours but still a lot of details. Skimp trial expired for me so couldn’t try that.

Attached is example of the details I would like to simplify, is there a tool that I can like merge the extra lines without deleting the surface? I don’t mind manually going in and merge them if I have to. Thanks!

I’d start by softening the edges. If they aren’t softened then conceivably they are coplanar and could be deleted. You can’t just merge faces to remove the edges unless the faces are in the same plane. If the faces aren’t in the same plane the edges are required and cannot be deleted.

Maybe it’s time to re-up for Skimp.

Just purchased Skimp Perpetual license. Reduced 50% and still looks pretty good, not losing too much shapes.

That’s good.

Hard to tell from your screenshots but I often find it better to make lightweight objects in my models by creating them from scratch rather than importing heavily triangulated file formats. You might give some thought to replacing the heavier objects in your model with simpler ones. Also look at small details. Does your model really benefit from those? I’m thinking of things like the hex nuts, studs and brackets in the background of your screenshot.

Skimp is great for reducing geometry but you’ll have to make the decision on those little details.
