I want to remove only 1 of 4 similar objects, but I can’t figure out how. When I mark one they all get markers, even if I open them and only mark one line. Isn’t there anyway to split them apart? It’s downloaded from the 3D warehouse, it’s from Sleepyjoshua and it’s a Hip Roof. I hope someone can help me ![]()
There are 4 instances of one component, you make one of them unique to edit it without changing the others.
Thanks, but Make Unique is just grayed out, in the menu when I right-click on the component.
Upload your model so we can see what’s going on.

Solved! I had to take the components higher in the hierarchy and make them unique first, then I was able to make individual parts unique - then I could delete them. ![]()
Which four components were you trying to reduce to three?
Component 96 is the only component with sub components that I can see with four instances, and one pair of each of them is nested in a larger component 98 to form one half of the roof structure.
You could explode one component 98 OR make it unique, then delete one of component 96.
I don’t see Make Unique greyed out when I select either one of Component 98 or any of component 96.
But I also see component 93 has four instances, but is contained inside component 96, two of which are contained in component 98.
You can’t make it unique (the option IS greyed out) because it is inside a parent component. There’s only one of it in the current context (the inside of component 96) so there’s no other copy of component 93 in that context to make it unique from.
Why do you want to remove just one of these components?
You don’t need to do all that Make Unique business.
Just get the component(s) you want to delete in the correct context.
If you haven’t already done so, review the basics of SketchUp at https://learn.sketchup.com to understand better how to manage a hierarchy of nested components.
