I don’t have a model to post because none of my attempts has even come close to the desired result. Basically, I’m trying to create a “butt cushion”… it starts out as a piece of 3/4” pine, 6” x 12”. A piece of 4” foam (a little longer + wider) is placed on top, then a piece of upholstery (maybe leather) is placed over the foam, wrapped under the wooden base, and staples in place. Hopefully my description is adequate for you to envision the end result. All four of the top edges would be rounded over as the upholstery wraps around to the sides. Likewise, the only 4 corners (vertical edges) would be rounded where the front and back wrap around to the sides. How would I model something like that? I’m guessing the follow me tool but I’m not good with that one and haven’t been able to figure it out.
One way would be to use Follow Me with a cross section of the cushion and a rectangle with rounded corners for the path.
A few more ideas.

Something to keep in mind when creating this sort of shape. If the radius of the curve of the profile is the same or larger than the radius of the path you will get overlaps on the ‘corners’ that will make it difficult to form a solid. You can see the tiny edges I highlight in the gif when I use the same radius for both. But making the profile radius slightly smaller than the path it is able to sweep around the bend without issue.
Jean, if you double click the inner face it will select the edges that you want to delete and allow the top and bottom faces to form without the extra steps.
I kinda forgot that you could do this with native tools but it’s also a VERY basic shape. I would not use Sketchup without RoundCorner being installed… How To Use Round Corner Plugin In SketchUp - YouTube
This thread is asking how to work in the web version, no extension currently work in the web version.
Thanks Box, I didn’t though about that. That’s the power of our forum. Allowing people to master new tricks all the time.
True story. Sorry. But that shows that the web version will need extensions!!!
Or that users could learn how to do it without extensions. For something simple like this extensions aren’t required.
I’m sorry but the only reply I have to that is not within the forum guidelines.
Thanks for all the help, everyone! With the guidance here, I managed to get the shape I needed.
I can somehow see a well known artist on a boat ship, typing …ahgrrrr… / sipping coffee or ____ (personal preferences) while keeping an eye on his 3D printer('s) result.
Far rrr too late for coffee, where’s the rum gone.
Reading aloud, in Latin, “Persians graze calves in Switzerland” Is quite a good substitute for some of the most common swear words in Finnish.
Not sure if you remember or know, I spent many years working in Finland and would have settled there if life had worked out that way. The dry wit of many of the people I got to know was one of the reasons I felt so comfortable.
