How to link an object to another object, so that its shape changes with the other object

Hi,

I want to create an object (or component) where two objects are linked to eachother. The main object would be a tile, with the grout layer attached to it.

When i change the dimentions of the tile i want the groutlayer (1mm bigger tha the tile on the x and y axis) to change with the tile. Also when i make holes in the tile, i want the groutlayer to change with the tile.

Is this possible?

Your profile says you are using SketchUp for Schools. This is a web-based version for young school children and has no options for working with Dynamic Components. Perhaps you have a SketchUp Pro or Studio subscription?

Share the component you’'ve created so far so we can see what you’ve got.

No, I’m a student in Dutch Highschool (15y). I’m using my dads computer with the i7 processor and nvidia card for performance.

For conveniance i’m using his email as well for this account.

I don’t have a pro or studio subscription.

For a school project, we’re drawing our house as realistic as possible. For the bathrooms i’m tired of having to change the groutlayer for each tile, when i’m changing the dimentions of the tile.

But I understand that i need another subscription to use dynamic components.

Back to the classic elbow grease

Thanx.

So you are actually using the web based SketchUp for Schools? Since Dynamic Components require an extension to be used and edited, that’s not an option for you. The web based versions don’t have an option to use extensions.

Better to use a texture for the tile floor. This can easily be edited for size and if you have a hole in the face the tile is applied to, you’ll have a hole in the tiles. This will also help to reduce file bloat which can cause you problems if the file gets too large.
