How to import .STP files to SU?

Hi everyone, does anyone know if there’s an extension that allows importing .STP into SketchUp while keeping components and without generating lines? I use Universal Importer as an extension, but it doesn’t preserve the components as they are and it generates a lot of unnecessary lines. I wanted to know if there’s a better way to do this.

Try uploading it to trimble connect and downloading it as trimBIM and then importing that

The object on the left is the TC import the one on the right is the Universal importer

sorry, how did u upload that stp to trimble connect?

This page should answer some of your questions Trimbal connect

Interesting. I uploaded a .stp file to Trimble Connect and saved it as a TrimBIM file which I imported into SketchUp. I also imported the .stp file using Universal Importer. I spent a few seconds merging coplanar faces, softening edges, and scaling to the correct size in the latter but it was fast. The TrimBIM import is on the left, the one with Unversal Importer on the right.

I expect the missing geometry wouldn’t be an issue on large objects.
