I always click one box and try explode then zoom in to see I can find any spec of tiny line left over
I used to build my model parts next to the main model (now the blue blob 50x50x50m)
I am very afraid I wont be able to single out all my groups and components if I keep exploding one after the other.
I drag my recantly multiple times over the empty spaces but can’t seem to delete anything hiding there.
Before I had a huge amount of guidlines going into the infiniti but I deleted them all
I looked at hidden geometry and purged mutiple times
Thanks for any advise, don’t tell me off I know i am a crazy artist designer and don’t work
like a planned architectural office

Vic
Are you saying you have geometry in groups and those are the resulting bounding boxes?
If so I have seen this in my own models. If it isn’t stray geometry then check the position of the axis for your group. You may need to reposition the axis closer to the geometry.
You don’t need to explode, you can edit a group and remove unnecessary things from within.
You can also hide the rest of the model when editing a group or a component. This eliminates distractions from edges and faces belonging to another group or component.
The realty is you have nested groups/components that are pushing the bounding boxes way outside the geometry. You can dig down and find the errors and those bounding boxes will keep contracting.
Hallo
Thank you.
How do I do that. Never knew this can be done. I am always afraid to delete essential stuff.

When I click on one group
then I drag a huge frame everywhere else in the “seemingly empty space”
and click delete but still when I leave the group the blue frame is there.
This is a “component” I made it unique and repeated the process
and still the rectangle is there.
How to make STRAY geometry “show”
I am trying for hours I can’t see anything after
opening groups or components deeper and deeper and then dragging over these
huge expanse of open space
I can’t see a thing and I have very clear vision
I moved the main axis to the corner of my main built
it was there I don’t know when I moved it in the course of two years
working on this.
It’s mind boggling …not to be able to find pixels dots or remenants within in these huge spaces
Thanks for your input

Vic
I am doing my best but finding the invisible seems never ending
and seems to shrinks
any extensions specializing in these invisible dots
that even the purge not seems to find or do I need to
make a purge when each group is open?
I usually only purge the entire model
I open one group then the next and next all part of one bigger component
otherwise I can’t export them as collada or fbx
But I need this entire group all in one for one last time
Regards and many thanks

To remove stray geometry, follow these steps:
1 - Make sure that nothing is hidden, otherwise you cannot select it.
2 - Select All;
3 - Press and keep pressed the Shift key to add/subtract items from the selection;
4 - While still pressing the Shift key, do a window select of the part that you want to keep then release the Shift key. This deselect the part that you want to keep. Only stray geometry remains selected.
5 - Press the Delete key.
Also, as instructed by DGSketcher, reposition the group or component axis so it is not very far from your model like your image is showing.
To save time for everyone, you included, it would be a good idea to upload your skp file for us to check and help you better.
Hello
Thank you very much for the instructions.
I did exit all individual groups and components and
then reposition the main axe at the corner of my building.
This may be a stupid question but
When I see the “all selected screen” as per screen shot ,
how do I select one specific group (say the one in diagonal, diamond position)
within all of them?
When I click all the blue group lines disappear and then
I click around the model to find the one till I see that one in particular
I think, what you wrote is what I am doing, have done, many times before.
BUT not, your point 4, because usually only one group stays active.
I will try it your way now.
I found ONE spec of a line last night after x try and rotation etc.
Could it be that I work on a 4G monitor…Should I change to a smaller resolution?
Thanks again
I can’t upload as my model is near 2GB
and it’s two years of creative work I just can’t put that all out in a public forum
Thanks for your understanding.
Very sincerely

Code from chatgpt?
Select all must be done inside the context of a particular group or component.
You can use the outliner to select that particular group or component if you cannot pinpoint it easily.
Hello
GRAND thank you for the outliner
I often did not use it as it seemed to slowdown everything
I have diminished much of the strays which is such a relief
lucky many groups outlines were connected to something visible
around the outerside of
the building.
Now I am wondering how can I single out the big cube within the outliner?
Do I have to go and click through ALL my outliner listings one by one?
When I click on the blue group outline it doesn’t take me to that particular group
that seems to be the culprit that needs cleaning
Thank you very much already a great step forward with your kind help!
I am very grateful for your patience!
Sincerely
Vic
PS:
I came across this group file name
that I would never have named like that
I tried to rename it but it won’t let me
can it be some item from the warehouse?
Sometimes I use a pic from the web to create a graphic

You will get a much more direct answer if you can upload your model here. If the model file is smaller than about 15MB, drag and drop the file into your next post from Windows Explorer (or Finder on Mac).
If it is bigger, share it via Dropbox, OneDrive or WeTransfer and share a link to the file here.
Two likely causes of the large bounding boxes have already been mentioned:
1. Axes outside the geometry of a group or component, or not aligned with the object’s geometry.
It’s easy to change a component’s axes by selecting the component then using R-click/Change Axes.
It’s possible but not so simple to change a group’s axes, so I’d recommend making each group into a component first, then change the component axes as above. Give it a meaningful name when you create it.
2. Stray geometry within the component (or group) some distance from the object’s geometry.
Open the object for editing (double click on it, or R-click/Edit (component or group). Select using a left-to-right window all of the object you want to keep. Cut the selection to the clipboard. Select all of what’s left, using the keyboard short Crtl+A (Windows) or Cmd+A (Mac) then delete it using the backspace or delete key, or R-click/Erase.
Then Edit/Paste in place the object contents back into the component or group.
Close the object, check and if necessary change its axes.
Both of these have already been described but I thought it might be helpful to summarise.
Hello Dear Sir
Thank you so much for taking your precious time to clarify again.
I have located my main axis for my entire model at the corner of my building
where it was since the start.
Unfortunately I can’t recall when and how I had it moved far away
I guess it happened using the space around it to design new parts of the model
before integrating them.
It only hit me like a hammer when I started to learn to export part of my models
to Unreal Engine groups needed to become components
and then FBX or Collada to render in Lumion.
I have mentioned before ( you may have not read that I understand,)
my model is gigantic it’s near 2GB It’s two years of work totally alone by myself
I know I am in the wrong for building the entire model in one single file
but I can’t change that.
I can’t just share my model online.
My plan is to TRY to make it into a 3D game and maybe VR I have a VR set and
have walked part of my building in VR and it just looks awsome the space to move around
in it is just such an experience.
If I upload it in it’s totality anyone (and there must be many) more advanced and specialized and with money and staff, if interested, may just take it all and run. I can’t and won’t take that risk.
I am down to discover which ONE is the big group shape of cube
and discover where it is hiding and how to single it out.
I have near 300 saved version of the evolution of my model and over 1000 render and
movies but now at the end since I created the land and city around it
I have hit problems of loading and render failures.
I wish I had hit such roadblocks earlier to change my way of proceeding
I just watched a video that says it’s easier to work with wire frame, hidden lines, Xray
as the blue group lines and origins within my model may be seen with more ease.
I simply used space around my main model to build additional part
It’s a 50x50x50m city block on 18 levels above and underground
I was a trained interior and fashion designer all my life till I fell in love with 3D via SketchUP
My big (I can’t call it a mistake) I just create as I went and go like a canvas to be painted
and slowly built this behemoth model.
My SO who is an IT engineer and not what so ever artistic, no interest in my project,
keeps on telling me since I ran into problems.
I already had 32GB of RAM and asked for 64 then he added 128RAM of memory which
eliminated my problem loading it into Lumion but still speed is a main factor of frustration
as I don’t have the best graphic card in the market.
He tells me " You should have this and that and plan and make plans in advance."
And only work with scenes etc.
I know I have a BAD habit I constantly wanted to move around my entire model
and see what to change and improve visually
There are gardens pools a lake near one hundred rooms many with specific themes
and I’d say 98% of all graphics and patterns are my own creativity
I used some chairs and tables from the warehouse and even those I amend to make them
suit my view.
In the beginning I never imagined I would need to make movies and renders etc the entire
evolution became like learning process and now I need to learn Unreal Engine to turn it into
a game and test the market…
My brain just doesn’t work like that. I have ADHD and this is model is a major achievement of constant concentration since retired from work.
At the beginning I never knew it would grow that big…
I now have made many groups into components for export
but still the axis seems to be part of the problem as I see my nodes in Lumion to be
as far away as the blue group outlines and that is what I am working on
and yes nearly begging for help here to resolve in my NOT very professional language
As French and German educated and yes I live and work in English for over 40 years
but still in most software to use the exact terms to express concerns and questions becomes
an issue and due to budget I am must stay with 2019 I don’t want monthly billings etc…
I am very grateful and appreciate VERY much you taking the time to clarify potential solutions.
I am also NOT very good and writing my stuff in a more concise manner that’s why my messages
may be considered annoying.
I have designed with visual success a huge building with land and see
a model of what I call “Stiletto” I entered into the non build 3D worldwide contest after Covid (just for my own ego
I share it here just to show something I am proud of taking to the end stage

Many thanks for your time

so I am confident I may get to this to fruition also
Did you try the Cleanup extension? There is an option to remove lonely edges.
Hello
Sorry I only see NOW today that I never sent this reply:
Continuing the discussion from How to get out of this mess, without exploding everything in my project?:
Hi
Somehow with a lot of patience I have managed to clean out
MOST STRAY geometry.
Thank you kindly for your input and time spend writing your suggestions
Now, till trying to re organize groups and composites for further work.
I did try to download the “clean up” extension
but couldn’t get it to load in my SKU19
and it always asked to install another extension
and I didn’t feel confident as it looked weird
So want to tell all a GRAND thank you for your very precious time
to help me sort out my mess.
Very sincerely
Vic
