I am just exploring 3D scanning driftwood and matters found in the soil
I ended up with this interesting shape slightly modified.
I was wondering if I scale up by 1percent
and then juxtapose it to the original would that work?
Is there and extension that would do that?
Would this enlarged size make it more difficult to handle
or should I attempt doing in to the original sized file which is much rather small 50cm only
How can I “double” the entire layer
There are hollow shapes along the coloured lines that could be internal corridors
walkable by the public
If there is a technique that add thickness to the structure
will it also function in the hollow areas
or will that need to be addressed in a different way like scale -1percent ?
Firstly, let’s confirm a few things. Which version of SketchUp are you using? I see SketchUp Pro in your profile but which one - v22, v23, v24? Please update your profile.
You need to clarify what you’re asking. There are no ‘layers’ in SketchUp. There are Entities, ie groups and components comprised of Geometry (ie edges and faces) and Tags - which you can pace Entities (not raw geometry) on to control visibility.
It sounds like you want to give a single face, or mesh, a thickness. There’s no native way to extrude multiple faces at once. You can use an extension like Fredo’s Joint Push Pull to do this…but may struggle on a very complex and irregular mesh like you’re showing here.
Hello
I am on SKU19 I will try to remain that way as long as I can
OK I had the Freudo mutiple pull I I need to reinstall as I haven’t done so since I change my PC.
I recall it only does 300 faces so I may have to divide my model in smaller sections.
Actually I am quite stressed ont how to reinstall all my extensions from Sketchuaction etc
That’s fine but please put that in your forum profile so we don’t have to keep asking you…
SketchUcation bundles your installed extensions and you can install that bundle with a few clicks…
No, because the holes would also get bigger instead of smaller as you would want them to…
No, the enlarged version is easier to work with because of SketchUp’s small edges problem…
In fact: I would scale it up again before using Joint Pushpull…
Sidenote: You are making this much harder on yourself (and your computer) by using materials before your base-model is done… Especially because you want /need to keep track of reversed faces!
Thank you very much .
I am not doing it on purpose.
I use the 3D scanning app called POLYCAM
it allows me to download FBX DAE and Video of the scanned model.
I import the DAE file ?
I thought I can only export FBX from SU but not import it
How do I get rid of the material that actually is NOT interesting to me for a start
If i can delete all the materials in a few clicks I would not mind doing it
I will try to fill it with one material as in a group.
I just like to explore with the shapes .
I like to create with scans of natural things.
As they give me shapes and spaces I would never be able to create from scratch.
I used to photo and draw and measure but now with the 3D scanning its so much more fun
I paint them with model paints or cheap fingernail lacquer to give them pattern
An attempt to think like Zaha along natural shapes
