How to create an infinite pattern?

So I am trying to recreate a column which is design based on a fractal (infinite design through self similarity). I have built a column with four walls from one wall component. I’m trying to figure our how to create a design on the walls of the column that resemble a fractal pattern. Any tips?

If the texture image is “seamless” you can create a SketchUp material with the seamless texture, and paint faces or groups with the material.

(SketchUp materials are SKM files that are zip archives with the texture and XML documents describing the material.)
