How to block light from entering into my section cut

Hi, I have created a view from a perspective section cut and now I want to render it using Vray.
However I dont want the sunlight to enter through the section cut.
Previously I have got around this issue by created a box with my camera inside it.
But this technique does not appear to work with a section cut because the cut remove my ‘camera box’. Is there a clever way of telling skecthup not to cut a particular tag?

If not I guess the only way around this is to make a new file from the section view and then use the ‘camera box’ technique.

You could use your box idea if you make a group to contain the model with the section cut but without the box. Then the section plane won’t cut the box.

Nice! I didnt know I have to create the camera box geometry on its own tag and turn it off before the section cut. The only slightly tricky thing about this procedure is setting up the camera view after wards. thanks again.

I wonder how you got that from my description. I didn’t mention tags at all. Turning off a tag before creating a section cut won’t prevent the object with the tag from being cut.

What I wrote is to make a group of the model including the section cut. Place the box OUTSIDE of that group so it is not cut by the section plane.

Ive just put the back side of my camera box on a different tag so now i can see what i am doing!

Giving an object a different tag won’t prevent the section plane from cutting the object.

Thats exactly what I did… i just didnt mention it. its just helpful for me to have the camera box on its own tag. thanks again.

Giving the box a tag is fine but has nothing to do with what the section plane cuts.

another question leading on from this is how to render the scene without seeing my camera box.
I want the camera box to block any light entering the render but I dont want to see it.
Im guessing that I will have to remove it in a post editting software!?

Make the box large enough so the sides of it aren’t visible. Really it shouldn’t even need to be a box. A single face ought to work if you make it large enough.

If it’s just that you don’t want the sun illuminating the model, you could disable it in Vray. I rarely ever use the sun for illumination in my Vray renders.

Its an interior view of the rooms so i only want light coming in through the windows.

my section cut happens to be through a window so now ive got light coming in between my box and the window transoms. will now have to fill the gaps!
