I know how to apply an image to the face of a cylinder. But I can’t set it to prevent it from repeating itself indefinitely. On the Sketchup help it says right click > on the material then texture but I don’t see the texture option
That option only shows if you right click on a single face on which the texture has been applied. Your cylinder is made of multiple faces. Show Hidden Geometry so you can select a single face.
Share the .skp file so we can see what you’ve got set up.
What version of SketchUp are you actually using? Your profile says “Free Plan” “the last one”. Are you using the free web based version of SketchUp 2017 Make?
Many thanks for your answer, yes I use the free web version but I don’t think it’s the 2017. 2024 ? It’s possible ? I also don’t see the info about the version
The link for .skp file: SketchUp
Tk
So the free SketchUp for Web. You could put that in your forum profile. It would help us help you.
The link you provided only allows us to view your model but not interact with it. Download the file to your computer and then drag the .skp into a reply here.
You should be able to get some ideas from SketchUp YouTube page. This is a search for “Apply a texture to a curved surface”. There are several videos on the topic.
If you want to wrap an image around only part of a cylinder, then it’s pretty straightforward too.
The steps to produce this wine label were:-
1.Import the image (as an image, not a texture) then size it up against the bottle.
2. Draw lines around the bottle level with the top and bottom of the imported image. to prevent it repeating vertically over the entire bottle.
3. Pull the image back away from the bottle and explode it. It will then appear as a texture in the In model tab of the Materials browser.
4. Sample the exploded image and project it on to the face of the bottle that is most parallel.
5. You then need to r-click that face, go to Texture on the drop-down and un-project it.
6. Sample the now unprojected texture and paint it onto the adjacent faces on either side.
All you have to do then is keep sampling the newly painted faces and continue round in both directions until you reach the edges of the label. You’ll then need to draw two vertical lines to limit the label area horizontally.
Delete any sections of the top and bottom lines you don’t need, then paint the glass material onto the rest of the bottle.
In your model the edges of the top and bottom of the cylinder are exploded into segments. Redraw the cylinder and apply the material to the surface. After that create the component.
The label isn’t wide enough to cover the whole cylinder just once so you either need to define the region the label is to cover and apply the label with in or make the label bigger.
How are you going to use this once you have the label applied correctly?
