How to analyze texture file sizes in model?

Hello!

I am working with a sketchup model that is a whopping 1.7 GB in size. My laptop has high end graphics cards, so performance isn’t an issue. But the model is for a 20,000 sqft interior space, while on another project I’m working in a 150,000 sqft space that’s only 90 MB for both interior and exterior. I’ve already done a full review of components and removed/purged anything that was unnecessarily large, but the file is still a very large size. I’ve created new files and copied over some areas, and rebuilt others from scratch, but I feel like if the issue is not component size it might be tied to the texture images we are using, since it appears some of the textures we are using are pretty large in size.

When a texture image is added to sketchup, is that file imported into the model? I assume it’s not linked because i’ve never had an issue with broken texture links when files are moved. If anyone knows of a setting where I can analyze and review the texture images within the model, i think this would help track down what is causing such a large file size for this model.

Thanks!

If it appears in the In Model materials it is included in the file size.

You can use Material Resizer from the Extension Warehouse to check and reduce material image sizes to something more reasonable.

Have you purged unused materials from the model?

Yes, when you import a file into sketchup , the original image sits inside of sketchup’s project.

There are extensions that will give you some info on this

Gol

This will tell you the texture resolution and texture size and order them from big to small.
