How do you remove the grid on hidden surfaces and dot on lines?

Right-click on surface and Unhide
I am not looking to unhide it, I want it hidden but the grid appears on top of the surfaces
While hiding things works great for temporary getting rid of objects that block the view, Layers are more robust way to control what is visible. Only assign layers to objects (ie Groups, Components, Dimensions, Text) not raw geometry that is just a bunch of loose edges and faces.
Preserve hide for more permanent modifications like hiding the bounding edge inside groups or components that share the same space
