How do I set windows to open all .layout files in 2016 ? I have 2015 and 2016 installed in my PC

I am trying to open layout from a different C++ application, and would like to set 2016 as the default for all .layout files.
Tried changing association in “Default Programs” to the 2016 exe. But it doesn’t work.
How ever I noticed the version number given in the Copyright of layout.exe was 2015.

That is just because Trimble has been releasing new versions slightly ahead of the calendar new year. If you look at the last modified date, you see that it was December 2015. I don’t think you are allowed to forward date copyrights. The file version and product version are all that matters here.
