How do I redraw hidden geometry

I hope I can explain what I am asking…

Say I had a model like this:

And then turn on Hidden Geometry and delete a line, I get this:

How do I fix it, respecting the curved surface? I know I can draw a line:

But then when I turn off Hidden Geometry I now have a line:

I can hide it and it seems to work:

But when I look at hidden geometry the line is different:

Is there another way to handle this?

There are two different options, hide and smooth. Hide looks like the one you hid and smooth looks like the others, use shift with the eraser to Hide and ctrl with the eraser to Smooth.

Doh… Thanks… I think I knew this, but its something I have never used in anger… Thanks for taking the time to remind me.
