I do line drawings. I keep the colors separate as they never render correctly. Curious to see what you do. Please share
You could make your life easier if you use textures and actually build 3D models in SketchUp rather than treating it like 2D CAD. FWIW, I fixed the incorrect tag usage.
William,
I don’t known what your workflow is exactly…
I imported your SU file into Layout 2022 and created a viewport from the GUEST BATHROOM PLAN scene as vector and in an instant was able to draw a box (with the rectangle tool) over the viewport.
Hi @william ,
I’ve looked at your model. I agree with @DaveR . Your design looks great and I appreciate the level of detail you’ve put into your design. But I don’t really see the benefit of using SketchUp for 2D drafting like this. Why not use a CAD program intended for 2D? Or better, design in 3D and have a single source of truth for everything instead of having to sync multiple 2D views of your design whenever you make a change?
You’d significantly reduce the number of polygons by using textures instead of representing everything with edges.
I can offer one tip. Use a style that doesn’t show profile edges, you’ll notice a significant improvement in rendering in the model.
Thanks SU Team,
Looking forward to learning the new ins and outs of 2022.
Especially appreciate addition to LO of Find/Replace.
Best.
for me, the unsung hero of SU 2022 is that standard views (left, right…) now works from the current axis and not just the default axis. Not a small thing at all, as those standard views are recognised by scene also in Layout. This adds possibilities for new workflows in terms of how many defined scenes one needs.
Thank-you SketchUp for yet another awesome release. Looking forward to working with and fully testing my extensions in SU 2022.
Layout Please support multi-core CPUs, do not single core
each core could update a viewport - wouldn’t that be awesome. The more cores, the quicker a file can be updated… (It sounds so easy when an enduser describes it, doesn’t it…)
If you are doing fast 2d drawings, try PowerCADD… It is in transition at the moment to be compliant to the latest OS, so you may have to wait until later this year.
The export to IFC2x3 went missing for me in Sketchup 2022 Mac. How do I get it back? I use it to share models with clients who open it in Sketchup (I don’t want to share skp files). Sketchup can only import IFC2x3 and not IFC4. Please help!
Unfortunately, the exporter and importer has not been recompiled for native M1. Waiting for a hotfix….
Thanks for your answer! When can I expect this fix? Will it bring back the IFC2x3 export function? I might have to go back to Sketchup 2021 until then.
Either that or change how you open the App (In finder, select Sketchup.app in the applications folder, Cmd I will open the inspector and there you can choose to open via Rosetta.)
It will run slower, though.
If you still have 2021 installed, I would just do it in an instance of that version. All files after 2021 are compatible.
I think this is a really good set of tweaks and modifications to existing tools
Find and Replace is the new tool of note.
And I can’t wait!
Best version yet!
This is a great new feature and it will save me a lot of time. Could it be possible to add “Selected Pages” to the “Find in” dropdown? Sometimes I find myself needing to replace a certain string of text on multiple, but not all of the pages in my Layout document.
There was a recent SU survey I found to be of no value to Trimble. Just a few questions that couldn’t be answered without completing some word association. I wouldn’t associate 90% of the supplied words to describe SU. Yet you had to choose all of them to continue the survey. A worthless survey IMO.
On a another topic, imported keyboard shortcuts do not work for me on SU 2022.
