Based on many such posts (but only a few models posted that weren’t behind NDAs), with titles like: ‘LayOut is moving very slowly’, ‘SketchUp file won’t open’, etc…
try making some basic changes at the workflow:
- learn the difference between 1024 KB and 100 MB;
- keep track of the number of entities (edges, faces) of a component;
- don’t download components from 3D Warehouse directly into the file you are working on;
- do not work directly in a SketchUp file located online;
- look for lowpoly models, especially if you intend to send the file to LayOut;
- use textures under 1024 pixels;
- it’s best to create the necessary components yourself, as light as possible;
- use Purge command;

Make no sense to expect to be able to import everything you like from 3D Warehouse into your model and have the program run as if you only had a cube.
