Hi Everyone new here and would appreciate some help with missing skp files

I am using sketchup pro 2020 on a Macbook pro and have created a number of models over the years. Today I have discovered that virtually all of my .skp files are missing - they were generally saved to iCloud in different folders. There are no .skb files either but all the layout files are still present. When I right click on the app icon in the dock a list of models appears but none of them will open. I have searched for ~.skp and ~.skb files on my Mac and on iCloud but nothing. Would be grateful if anyone could help with what may have happened and how I might get the files back.

Hello and welcome,
If the files have disappeared from your personal cloud, there’s not much we can do…
But have you tried this ? https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://support.apple.com/guide/icloud/recover-deleted-files-mmae56ea1ca5/icloud&ved=2ahUKEwjiwMmu6d3vAhUHuRoKHYKoBRsQFjABegQIAxAF&usg=AOvVaw0qUK0uvGgEBX-hQ1pSDC8C&cshid=1617306819594

Sorry for the long link… Still works though. It seems you can recover deleted files in icloud within 30 days

Hi Paul

Thanks for the response really appreciate it. I have given the cloud recovery option a go but there was nothing there to save. I could understand accidentally deleting one or two files but not all of the sketchup files from different folders where the layout files are still stored. It’s as if my computer is not recognising the file extension.

Will the Layout files open, or is that a problem too?

If you can open them, remember they contain a full copy of the Sketchup model(s) they reference.
