Sketchup file disappeared and I can't find the file anywhere on my computer. (URGENT)

I worked on a sketchup file on sketchup pro 2022 for more than a week and the project is due in 4 days. I opened sketchup today to work on it to open it from the file preview thumbnail as always and it was not there. I tried finding it everywhere on my file explorer, temp files-nothing. I’m almost certain that I ctrl+s it before shutting my laptop down last night, which always works and I’d always be able to see it in the file preview. My backup/autosave is on and I don’t understand how the file can just disappear like that. I’ve been trying for the past hour but to no avail. Please help :frowning:

I use this application (it’s called Everything):

http://voidtools.com

It can instantly show you every .skp on your drives, and has a column for you to sort by Date Modified. For me, it found 701 files as soon as I had typed the ‘p’.

See if that works for you, and if any recently modified .skp is the one that is missing.

Thank you, I just tried that but it did not work. However I also tried recovering possible lost files using ‘disk drill’ and found a file called ‘file000004.skp’ which looks like it’d be around the same size as the file that I’d lost. Upon recovering, I tried to open it, but it showed mea pop up saying ‘failed to open document’.

It is very bizzare as I have definitely seen the file in my file explorer and ctrl-s’d it many times throughout yesterday while I was working on it- for it to know seem like the file is untraceable. Please help me.

I don’t know what happened to your file, but just so you know, file recovery apps only rarely manage to save a binary file such as a skp. Usually they make a mess of it because they can’t tell how or even whether the pieces they found fit together.

You could share the file you found to see if we can recover it for you but based on your description of what you did and reports from others who’ve used recovery applications on files, I expect you will need to start over.

Did you look for a .skb version of the file? Maybe it is usable?

Presumably you have a current SketchUp subscription so you would have access to Trimble Connect storage. Going forward you should not only save your file on the internal drive but also to your Trimble Connect account so you have an additional backup.

For the Everything app, did it fail to work, or it failed to show any .skp files on your PC? Either way, if it doesn’t work that suggests there are some Windows issues going on.

No, unfortunately I was not able to find any .skb files

Here is the file I mentioned earlier: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SyBPIhljeyLsca5RTfVDcDtTkM0uXA88/view?usp=sharing

Hi, it did show a .skp file that looks like it could be the same size as the file I lost, and it is from the same date.

It showed me this file:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SyBPIhljeyLsca5RTfVDcDtTkM0uXA88/view?usp=sharing

But I was not able to open it as it showed me a pop up saying ‘failed to open document’
