Hexagon with side to side distance instead of point to point distance

I need to make a hexagon with a side to side distance instead of a point to point distance. I know there is a way to change the center line of the circle from the point of its segments to the center of its segments but I don’t remember how. Can you help?

Until now, there is no way to change this, but you can

  • create a normal hexagon
  • rotate it (30°)
  • scale it (with shift key) and enter the length (side to side)

Create the hexagon, any size.
Group perimeter plus face
In editing context of the group measure the distance between opposite sides > type the desired distance and [Enter] > answer … resize question with yes
