Help needed > Can't export layout file to PDF format!

Hello,
I am using LAYOUT (just moved to 2024 version) and I realized I can’t export my file to PDF format. Can somebody help ? Thanks a lot,
Maya

What happens when you try to export the PDF?

Do you have the Output Override box checked in Document Setup>Rendering? If so, uncheck it.

Share the LayOut file so we can see what you are working with.

It starts to export but remains stuck at the very beginning…

So what about the Out Override box? Is it checked?

So, again, share the LayOut file so we can see what you’ve got.

Where are you trying to export the PDF file to?

I am trying to export it to the same folder as my layout file. As usual actually but don’t work this time… I keep the layout + pdf in the same folder. I send you the file in my next msg

Oups the file is too big - how can I do ?

Upload to DropBox and share the link.

I don’t have Dropbox ; anyway to send it by wetransfer ?

Yes. Use We Transfer then.

Do you have a mail I can the file to ?

Just put the link in a reply.

@DaveR (Sorry had a bug on we transfer so I switched to transfer now)

I’ll look at your file ASAP. You shared the backup copy, not the working.

OOOOh you are right ! I do it again ! Went to fast

@DaveR Did you get my second file ? :upside_down_face:

Yes. Be patient. I’m working on it.

Perfect ! Thank you very much !

It looks like the bulk of the problem comes from yuor bloated SketchUp models. I couldn’t even get the first page to export until I opened the associated SketchUp model and did some cleanup. I fixed incorrect tag usage.

Then I purged unused stuff.

After saving the changes and updated the LayOut file the first three pages exported quickly. Then I repeated the process for the model displayed on the 4th sheet.

This model also has a few excessively large texture images which I reduced.

After that cleanup the the entire document exported to PDF very quickly.

I’ll suggest that you go through all of the SketchUp models you are using in this file and clean them up. Then I expect you should be able to export the entire thing in a single PDF file. I’m sorry but I don’t have time to go through all of the SketchUp models your LO file is referencing.

I used an extension called Default Tag Geometry to fix the incorrect tagging of geometry and Purge All to purge unused content. Both are by TIG and available from Sketchucation. You can purge unused content via Model Info>Statistics. I use TIG’s extension because it give the report I showed but that’s more to show you what I got rid of.

@DaveR Thank you so much for taking the time to go through my file. I usually try to clean my SKP file regularly but it seems I forgot in the end (?). I will clean the unused staff and see if it helps ! MANY THX !!
