You could benefit yourself by spending some time at The SketchUp Campus. This is a site that will provide the basics for learning the SketchUp modeling process. Also, spend some time at the SketchUp SketchUp YouTube site. It provides much information including how to use each tool.

you should start bu the classes at the learn centre.

also, please fill in your profile a bit more accurately, SU for school is the kid version, I suspect you might have sketchup pro at a student discount or something.
and operating system is mac or pc, and the version, because some tutorials will be on one or the other.
