Hello! I was working on a file all day today in Sketchup Pro 2024 and now it’s showing “Failed to open document”.
I saved the file numerous times while working today into the client folder with no problems. My computer froze and required a reboot…after the reboot, it now won’t open the document. There is nothing showing in “Recent Files” or in “Recovered Files”. I have never had this happen before. Can anyone help?
Is there a skb file in that folder? If so, try changing its extension to skp and see if you can open it. It should be the model from the save before last (each time you save, the prior version is renamed to skb). The freeze and crash likely damaged the open skp file.
All of my client folders are stored in my Data (E:) Drive on my computer.
I’ll attached the WeTransfer link in case that helps at all (sorry, this is my first time on the forum).
It’s not the end of the world if I don’t get it back but I’m helping a friend with some landscaping plans and would rather not have to redo it all…ugh.
Unfortunately both files are missing huge chunks of data. It might be that @colin could recover something from your files but based on what I see, I wouldn’t have a lot of hope.
Is that an actual internal drive inside your computer?
Going forward it would be a good idea to not only save the file to an internal drive location but also save it to Trimble Connect as a backup. You’ve got unlimited storage there included with your subscription. Might as well use it.
What are the chances you sent your SketchUp model to LayOut?
■■■■, good to know. Yes, I have two drives built in for nearly endless storage on my system lol. I suppose I should have thought about using the Trimble Storage as backup just in case.
Thanks for the tips and for looking into this, I appreciate it! Back to the drawing board tomorrow, UGHHH.
Yeah, I’m going to have to run through my computer tomorrow. Oddly enough, I tried updating to the new version of Enscape today and got a Malware notice pop up? Some weird things have happened today.
Definitely didn’t send it to Layout. I just tried opening Enscape and everything froze for a solid 10 mins so I rebooted and then this happened.
Sounds like weird things are definitely happening with your computer.
The LayOut thing was a long shot but if you had sent the model to LayOut you would have had another copy embedded in the LO file that you might have been able to open.
