Hi Ivan, no, all of those details in the A5xx set were drawn or composed completely inside layout which for me is faster than Autocad. I created some great scrapbooks where you can just Alt/Option Key the required line weight or Symbol. Faster than Autocad and the only reason I need Intekllicad is years ago I bought a library of DWG details specific to New Zealand building code. Intellicad PE (not PE +) is primarily 2D drafting and is a Permanent License for aprox 300 US and works just like Autocad incl programming. I am not a fan of Annual Subscription Licenses and I have to keep my overheads down, Flexible short term or monthly are better Also not a fan of taking away the free 3D warehouse that was originally based on the generosity and sharing of users who keep the software companies in businees. Dont get me wrong, I really appreciate legitimate work done by developers and I will always upgrade when it is worth it, but I am not a fan of manipulation to make money, but I guess that is business these days. You are welcome to give the scrapbooks a try see attached Zip file. You may need to change edit the paper size to get the same easy to read scrapboook view. If you need help on that just ask. For me layout 21 is all I will every need as a small one-man operator, the only downside is on the sketchup side with no 3d Warehouse or Location Mapping both removed due to security reasons. I am guessing they will remove all support soon but it should not affect me too much as I already have developed libraries…
Forgot Link Scrapbooks hopefully a bit of gold for a few people a good weeks work
No one took the warehouse away. You can still access the 3dwarehouse via the web, download what you need and use it… although you might have to work with converting newer file formats, you just can’t access it from within older versions because of changing web tech and security issues.
My understanding is that it is moving to the subscription model at some stage
Andy that’s very kind of you. I downloaded the lot.
It makes me laugh that I got told several times to NOT think or use LO as CAD - and yet there it is, by any reasonable definition, in your drawing set, doing fine.
I also found the breaking of the link to 3D warehouse and Extensions a bit galling. Funny how it coincided with the switch to subscription payment. I mean OK you can get then via browser, but it is absolutely not the same as being able to import directly to your model.
And - site location. Losing that was a real PITA…
Like you, I am not a fan of subscriptions.
Curious where you heard that…
I think the rest of the world heading for a subscription model and SU products now available on a subscription might be heavy clues.
Just ask if you need anything else. It is a lot of thinking and work arounds which I am tweaking at the moment. Here is a link to the current model and layout set for a beachhouse that this technique is based on. It does not include the detailing that was done a couple of years back on a converted americas cup studio. Stay in touch regarding Olivers Wisext plugin which is an excellent QS tool. Yes you can add endless custom attributes in sketchup and export to excel and reimport back to Sketchup that show up in layout for labels. I have not done QS areas etc which is one thing I regret as a designer. I think it is a great asset to be proficient in QS. Here is the link to current model and linked files. They will all be missing from your Document Setup so save the model in your preferred folder and relink everything. Sketchup Simple Current Layout Full.layout Concept-Simple to Name.skp hopefully this will not send you down a rabbit hole and you can make an informed decision.
I do not want to get into a slinging match, so apologies all round and I should be more careful, I am not 100% sure. but 90% sure I read it in a SketchUp email or the Trimble website, I guess time will tell. I absolutely think SketchUp is a fantastic product, and I would have continued to upgrade, I love how you can find work arounds and develop systems that are locked out in other cad systems. I hope Sketchup and others will reconsider perpetual license and short-term subscription licensing, but I guess we have gone too far.
Assumption is the mother of all f%%ck-ups…
A valid SketchUp subscription already gives you a larger allowance of daily downloads from the 3D Warehouse than without it, but I understand that making the whole Warehouse a payed service would violate its present terms and conditions. You must remember that the IP rights to the models remain with their creators. A pay site would probably have to pay royalties to the creators.
Yes I definitely could be wrong on that. I just came of long disagreement from Cadimage NZ/Aus regarding restricting me selling my 2 perpetual Archicad licenses which were worth 10k and a bargain at that. In the end I had to quote the Elula which allowed for ii. I guess I just recent the taking away of the choice to kind of own something that was made by someone else
I’m not referencing the scaling of models or scaled drawings, but the use of the scaling handles. I’ve found this an easier way to move stuff in lieu of fighting complexity in moving via inferencing and particularly if trying to move a line. Here it is easier to create a rectangle close to the line and select both to move and then delete the rectangle - savage workaround!
But below shows the issue within the native scale handles, I’m scaling the green rectangle to the end of the black, it’s picking up my inference on the black rectangle, but extending the green past it! What is going on here???
I use layout a lot, and for likely more things than most users, so it is likely I catch problems that others just aren’t witnessing, or considering as their error, when in fact '24 is complete with many such errors!
Richard, that is not normal behavior, perhaps attach a file that shows this so others can see if it does the same on their system.

Scale the green a second time and you’ll see it occur!
BTW what soft do you use to generate gifs like that?
Not sure what you mean.

There are various gif capture options, many use licecap.
@Box Select the green and scale it to the end of the first black square, with it still selected scale it to the same black square! This happens to me a lot randomly, but this is the easiest way to reproduce it!
The issue is, I may have multiple items in a selection, and scale them quickly to a point near to where i wan’t the selection to scale, then zoom in a fix accurately, it’s when the selection isn’t dropped or there are numerous inferences possible, all hell breaks loose!

I see the buggy behaviour with the scale handles Richard.
The SketchUp team should be notified of this bug but whether there will be a patch update that would include a fix for this…?
I guess the this buggy behaviour is probably quite specific to your workflow – as you know, I do a lot of drawing directly in Layout and I have not encountered this problem in my workflow.
