Guides disappearing?

Recently had to re-install Pro 2024 and now I can’t draw guides. Well, I can draw them but they disappear as soon as I let go of the mouse button.

The scene style has guide visibility turned on. I’m reproducing this in a new, blank model (the first “Simple Model” in the launch screen). Color by Tag is turned off. Is this a bug or am I just doing something stupid?

SU 24.0.553

Is the Default tag active? Is the the indicator present in the Tape Measure cursor for drawing guides?

There is only one tag in the model (ie Untagged), and it is active.

Tape measure cursor has a red guides indicator (two dashes and a cross). The guide draws as usual (i.e. I can pull a guide off a model axis or edge) but it disappears as soon as I let go.

And Guides are checked in the View menu?

When you installed SketchUp 2024 did you do so correctly by right clicking on the downloaded installer and selecting Run as administrator?

Guides are turned on in the View menu and in the Style settings.
I did not “run as admin” during install.

(my account is already an administrator, not sure if this would have mattered?)

Close SketchUp, find the installer, right click, choose Run as administrator, and then choose Repair.

No. That’s not the same.

OK, I downloaded the installer again, re-ran as admin, chose repair.
Still can’t draw guides.
Additionally, I tried using the protractor tool to draw an angle guide line, and it creates one in the wrong place.
I put the protractor at the origin, aligned to blue axis, drew an angled line at about 45 degrees (i.e. between green and red axes) but when I let go, the guide shows up parallel to and slightly above green axis.

Now that sounds more like a graphics issue. Which Graphics Engine are you using? Window>Preferences>Graphics?

Are you still using that old GTX 906M graphics card?

This PC has a Radeon RX 570. Driver recently re-installed (I did a clean re-install of Windows 10 a few days ago).

Please update your forum profile with that information.

And again which graphics engine? Try switching to the Classic Graphics Engine.

Quite a few people have reported issues with the Radeon graphics cards/drivers and the new graphics engine.

Tried changing to “use classic graphics engine” and now it works.

Good. Hopefully the Radeon drivers will get another update soon so you’ll be able to use the new graphics engine…
