Graphics Issue on Waking

Hi All,

I’m looking for some help with a graphics issue, most times when my Laptop wakes from sleep, I get a weird issue that appears as if I am getting both small icons and toolbars and the larger size at the same time. The same issue happens with sketchup and Layout. I am using a second monitor.

Graphics card is up to date.

Laptop details:

Acer Nitro V15,
Processor 13th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i7-13620H (2.40 GHz)
Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.7 GB usable)
Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop GPU (6 GB)
Intel(R) UHD Graphics (128 MB)
Storage 646 GB of 1.38 TB used
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Edition Windows 11 Home
Version 25H2
Installed on ‎31/‎01/‎2025
OS build 26200.8117
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.297.0

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

I can’t offer any real help or a solution, but I haven’t trusted windows to recover from hibernation or sleep for at least a decade, probably longer.
I learnt from bitter experience to close programs and shutdown the system to avoid loss of data/oddities in a variety of software. To this day I still shut down my computer every night and restart in the morning, whether laptop or tower. I know mac users who go months without shutting down, then question why something has gone wrong. Same with Ipad and Android, I regularly restart my phone and tablet, and I would never think about leaving an unsaved sketchup model open on an ipad and let it sleep.
Others may disagree, but so far I haven’t lost anything.

I would guess it is something related to having 2 graphics cards, windows treats them differently in several different ways including having independent scaling settings.

I wonder if when the machine is woken, it comes on using the integrated one and is then switching to your nvidia one and the double icons etc are related to this as it.

Are you using external monitors or just the laptop’s own?

I’d ensure that boths sets of graphics drivers are fully updated, as is the bios.

You could also disable graphics card switching either in the bios or in windows/the driver settings.

I’m with Box. I never leave Windows in sleep mode. I shut it down every evening and turn back on in the morning.

And if I know I’m going to be away from my desk for longer than 15 minutes, I’ll save and close anything I’m working on. Whether its a Sketchup file or just a spreadsheet.

Thanks for the suggestions, I made sure all was up to date, which it was, I am using a second monitor and found that the scaling on the laptop screen was different from the second monitor, made these the same and it seems to have fixed the issue.

Thanks for the reply, 100% agree with never walking away from an unsaved model, burned by that before. There was no issue with losing work or data, just an annoyance. It became frustrating to leave for a bit and come back to this issue which required me to close sketchup and layout down and restart, which nowadays seems to take an eternity when I can be working on 5 or 6 different models through the day and bouncing between them. Seem to have the issue sorted for now, fingers crossed.
