Im far from qualified to answer but how big are your models? What size output do you have set?

Im using different hardware but my fan does start when rendering. However, if I run a game the fan runs a lot faster.

Generally a model of an interior room with output of 1600x1800 would take about 1.5 hrs. If you’ve got high poly objects like trees etc. that will increase the render time so try using V-Ray proxy objects.

in recent V-Ray 3.0 f. SketchUp you can configure to run on the GPU of the graphics card instead of the CPU of the system.
