Geolocation interface issue - True north offset

Hey folks

Geolocation continues to evolve, which is great.
However the notorious “widget” control has now made its way to the Geolocation window!..
When panning around the Map to select our location, it’s far too easy to accidentally grab the True North Offset adjustment and change it to some random amount.. Then there’s no way to easily change it back to default.
We need a Reset button.
But, ideally, please get rid of any widget-like behaviour from the GUI

Just delete the rotate north option? Why would north be pointing south?

Hi @AK_SAM,

Thank you for the feedback. We’ve pushed an update today which might make this experience less jarring for you.

Rotation can no longer be triggered by the axes, but instead an icon with a better defined hit area.

Thanks

hello,
there also was this rotate tool issue and also the 0.45° weirdness that remains in 2025

north

The 0.45 degrees you are seeing there is due to the curvature of the earth.

SketchUp is modelled in a UTM coordinate system and the value you define in the web application determines the angle offset between the green axis and “True North” (the orange line in SketchUp).

Naturally the green axis points to what I call UTM north. By using the “reset” axes feature in SketchUp you are setting the axes back to their default state. You will also see an option “Reset to geolocation” when right clicking on the axes, which will align the axes back to the position they were in during geolocation.

I hope that clarifies some things.
