Friday Live Build Suggestion – WW1 Tank (Little Willie or Mark IV)
Hi SketchUp team and community,
I’d like to suggest a unique and historically rich subject for an upcoming Friday Live Build: a World War 1 tank.
I recently visited The Tank Museum in Dorset, UK, and was fascinated by the engineering and design of these early armoured vehicles. It also struck me that tanks haven’t yet featured on the channel, which seems like a great opportunity waiting to happen.
My suggestion would be to model either “Little Willie,” the very first tank prototype ever built, or the more well-known Mark IV, one of the most iconic tanks of the First World War. Both offer bold, functional shapes and distinct details that would make for an engaging and visually striking SketchUp project.
One particularly interesting aspect would be modelling the tank tracks, which have a unique and rugged structure that could add a layer of complexity and fun to the build.
I’ve attached a photo of each tank to serve as visual references. I think this would be a fantastic subject to explore both for its modelling challenges and its historical significance.
