Since Sketchup moved to QT, the work screen flickers during various activities (zooming, moving, rotating, changing tools, drawing, etc.). This happens regardless of graphics settings. Changing to an older engine improves this to a large extent, but the flickering is still noticeable.
It has probably to do with the Adaptive-Sync function in the monitor (G-Sync) because when I turn it off (with monitor’s osd menu), the problem disappears.
I checked and this has been happening at least since the 2024 version (also 2025 and the latest 2026 build 26.2.243). It’s not visible in the internal recordings, I would have to record the monitor screen to show it. I didn’t have this problem on the older monitor without Adaptive-Sync or on the current one (with Adaptive-Sync/G-Sync) in any other programs than Sketchup.
Likely has to do with the local graphics system on your computer; is the graphics card set to use SketchUp? (in the Nvidia control panel) Also do you have the latest driver installed? Use the Nvidia site to check; Windows is not reliable to provide the latest driver.
Yes, Sketchup is detected by the Nvidia control panel (all settings default, setting custom FPS doesn’t change nothing). Yes, the latest driver. The problem started after updating the SketchUp to the next version (since v2024) and after changing the monitor, not after changing graphic card or the drivers.
I think the refresh rate is what we need to look at, in both the Nvidia settings and Windows.
The refresh rate of the monitor is 180Hz. FPS (I think no problem with it) in SketchUp is various and depends on what is done in the program. The problem is with the SketchUp, not with the Nvidia settings or Windows. Btw, I’m not sure, but I think there was no such problem with 60Hz monitor (without Adaptive-Sync) with the same graphic card and OS.
Can you just turn off Adaptive Sync then? Or change it to 60Hz?
I can turn it off in the monitor settings (no flickering then) or change the Hz setting in the Nvidia control panel, but I don’t want to just for working with one program (changing these settings are for everything). This function (Adaptive Sync) was always enabled and no program/game has ever had problems because of it.
Actually, you supposedly can change the profile for sketchup.exe in the Nvidia Control Panel, and it will only affect the display when SketchUp is running on it.
You mean I have to change Sketchup’s default (global) settings related to refresh rate in Nvidia control panel?
It’s been a long time since I was on pc hardware; but can you not have per app settings for your video card / driver?
The configuration of per-application profiles is managed under the Manage 3D Settings section of the Nvidia Control Panel. Instead of modifying global settings, you use the Program Settings tab to target specific executables (.exe) and override global rules for features like Max Frame Rate, Power Management Mode, Vertical Sync, and Antialiasing.
Adaptive sync itself causes flickering on many displays depending on the framerate - sketchup goes itself often doesn’t render a frame at all or renders a bunch, so framerate is constant going in and out of the display’s sync window.
The simplest thing would be to disable VRR/adaptive sync for sketchup in the control panel. Just force v-sync instead.
I don’t have the issue on my VRR displays , so with that in my it could be either a driver or a hardware issue on your side rather than something specific to sketchup.
There are settings that affect it in the nvidia control panel, if you are using it via a laptop the integrated GPU/controller - those driver settings or control panels may affect it and then windows itself also has settings for it in graphics settings.
