Fixing settings to draw the way I draw

I like to draw where I I click my start by choosing my start point and a direction and I select a direction by touching the screen again.i then go to input a length and then the line continues in a different direction instead of correcting the original line to the length I selected. What setting do I need to change. I only want the original line and not two lines.

I’m not on my iPad at the moment, but do you have continuous line selected in preferences?
