Dear SU for Sketchup official team:
Hello! The ipad for Sketchup you developed is very useful, thank you very much. But it also has many imperfections. I hope that the following improvements can be made in future versions:
1、 It can support the installation of computer version SU plug-ins. If it cannot be supported, some surface and shape modeling tools can be developed. Without surface modeling functions, it is almost impossible to complete the work if it is done with surface shape.
2、The computer version of the SU model cannot display thumbnails when stored in the iPad. It seems inconvenient not to preview when calling. I hope to support thumbnail display in the iPad folder.
3、 The performance of iPad is limited and not as good as that of computer versions of Sketchup. I hope that the proxy display mode can be introduced in the ipad for Sketchup software, so that complex models can also run smoothly in the ipad.
4、The disk menu cannot directly click to execute commands. I hope that the user disk commands can be customized, and the commands can be directly executed through the screen disk menu.
5、 Extended tools can only define 8 tools at present. It is not enough to hope that it can be expanded to 20, and it is better not to limit the number.
6、You can also set shortcut keys by right-clicking the screen menu, which is much more convenient.
7、Use the selection tool on the keyboard to support Ctrl addition and selection, shift+Ctrl addition and subtraction selection
Hullo,
it can’t, for appleistic reasons. and even if it could, chances are, most plugins would need a partial rewrite to be adapted.
alas, they already exist, even in the native sketchup pro, as the sandbox. but the sandbox - and all the other solutions - are plugins…
what do you mean ? when you’re on your computer and look at the skp files in your ipad ? do you have sketchup pro installed on your computer ? (even without a licence) ? if so, even without a licence, it should install the quicklook plugin that allows you to see a thumbnail.
try command. on mac it’s command, not control. shift should do either addition or subtraction. I don’t have an ipad on hand, but at least it’s the way it works with apple, and the ipad version should follow the same logic
Sketchup pro is like a full size wood workshop. it’s a massive warehouse where you can find lots of tools and techniques, to build furnitures, houses, boats etc.
sketchup go, on ipad + web, is more like a garage wood workshop. there are many people out there building boats, furnitures and even homes out of their garage workshop. but it’s not the same scale. On the other hand, it’s easier to access. you don’t need 2 screens and a 3d mouse. Dani designs Theatre decors in her hammock with an ipad an a pencil.

These are all valid points, but it seems like a lot of these asks are things that the core rules of Apple, or the limitations of the iPad hardware (also Apple) keep from becoming a realization.
I agree that it would be wonderful to have a bezier or subD or clothworks as imbedded iPad features… But those are quality of life feature requests.
I also always like to encourage iPad users to think about the iPad as a different animal than the desktop. If a mouse and keyboard are essential to a particular working style, I would encourage any such user to switch to the web version (either paid or free) and get a more powerful laptop that can do more than the iPad chips.
I love iPad, but the reason it’s so great for me is that it’s not the desktop version.
