Hi, was trying to upload this fbx to skp but it appears buggy. Like only few lines appear on my skp and they are like exploded. I would like you to check it if what is the problem. Im using simlab fbx importer btw
Can you share the fbx file?
hello ,sorry for my late response. it was too big and i have to put it in drive. I would also like to ask how i could put the texture in it? 03- Ceiba.Pentandra.Tree - Google Drive
This kind of file needs a more complex importer to link materials correctly. I tried with Transmutr but canāt assign specific materials to different parts of the model. Perhaps @mihai.s can do it using Blender.
yes, iāve tried transmutr too but failed. Thereās just too much materials and i cant assign them allā¦
I used the free plugin āUniversal Importerā and it works, but the file is absolutely unusable.
This baby has got more than a million and half vertices and takes more than 10 gigabytes of ram.
Such model is not meant to be used in Sketchup.
Looking at the topology and the shape of the roots Iām pretty sure you used the (now free) EOn Plant factory to create this, so use your brain and tweak the parameters to export something more low poly under 20k vertices.
If you use the OBJ format to export your file instead of FBX, you can also use Quadface Tools obj importer to easily import the proper texture mapping (it will also preserve the groups hyerarchy, while Universal Importer doesnāt).
the guy below said its unusable, so iāll just not use it. Thank you for your time!
hi, it was a downloaded fbx as i was looking for a tree but i cant find the one i want from 3d warehouse so i just kept on looking on internet. Anw, thanks! iāll just look for another one
I believe itās a free template from Eon Plant factory, which is also free.
If you really need that specific model, just install the software, browse for that tree in the gallery, tweak the parameters to create a low poly version (maybe consider to avoid modeled leafs and use billboards instead) then export a reasonable obj and import it in Sketchup the Quadface Tools obj importer to preserve the textures and the UV coordinates.
Of course itās usable, but it depends on what. You didnāt specify.
In its current form, if itās for rendering and you have V-Ray, you āproxyā it and you can render it.
If you want to bring it into SketchUp, either add a Decimate modifier to it in Blender and then export it as OBJ, or you can just render it and use the image with transparent background to create a 2D Face Me component in SketchUp.
Eg:
- 1 minute to add Decimate modifier (0.1, 0.2 or 0.5) in Blender;
- exporting as OBJ at 800K tris;
- 3 minutes importing in SketchUp Make with Universal Importer (no decimation);
- in SketchUp - soft & smooth edges, turn off Edges.
You can make a Proxy in V-Ray and use it for render. Also, you can use it in Skatter.
Oh cāmon.. of course is not.
Itās 10 gigabyte for a single tree with nearly 1.600.000 vertices.
It takes more than 10 minutes just to import using Universal Importer and then completely makes Sketchup unresponsive.
Converting it to proxy would just make it stable at 10 gb even if you copy it a million of times, but still itās 10 gigabytes model for the single instance.
It would also take a lot of time to just handle it in order to relink the materials and do the proxy conversion. You would stare at the hourglass for ages if you try.
In most cases, I would avoid to use such a monstruosity even in 3dsMax.
Itās a free template from Plant Factory, so I believe the most reasonable solution is to export a mid-to-lowpoly version.
If you look at the topology, you can tell that generic decimation will destroy it.
Plant factory can export a decent lowpoly version which weight less and looks better than a randomply decimated one.
hello, thank you for this! but i wonāt use it as i see that it has around like 7m faces⦠iām pretty sure that my laptop wont handle it. Thank you though!
Thanks @mihai.s for taking the time to show how to do this step properlyā¦even if it just confirms to the OP that perhaps they need to re-evaluate their tree choice.
And to @panixia for the nod to Eon Plant Factory. Not sure how useful it would be to me but itās free and after a quick test, I was about to output a āBillboardā tree that still looks pretty good and wontā break SketchUp.
