i’m getting the error “Failed to Open Document” help me please
Your profile says you are using SketchUp Free which is web based. Is that correct? And you’re getting that message when trying to open a SketchUp model?
Please upload your model to some place like DropBox or WE Transfer and share it so we can try to help.
The problem with the file is that it has a lot of very big materials. It did eventually open for me.
I am making a version with the big materials reduced in size. Hopefully that will work better for you.
Here are two files to try. One is where I reduced the materials to be no bigger than 512x512. That is still fairly detailed. Doing that reduced the amount of memory needed to about a quarter of what it was.
The other file also has unused items purged, which reduced the file size to 157 MB (original file was over 800 MB). See if either of these work for you.
Rats - I’m getting this message, too, on one of my projects. My skp and skb files are only 15 KILObytes, though, so I’m thinking that they’re both dead…
That’s probably true. My default template is 12 Kb and there’s no geometry in it.
Where have you been saving the file as you worked on it?
Saved right here on my computer.
I do, however, have a desktop an a NEW laptop = been having problems ever since I put SU on both. I think I have everything working that way I want it to - just this file…
Did you get any bug splats?
For future projects I would suggest also saving your file to your Trimble Connect storage so you have a backup copy. Actually, every time you save the file to Trimble Connect it is an incremental save so you can go back to an earlier version if needed, too.
What kind of problems? Are you still using SketchUp 2021 as your profile shows?
Ah.
Well, I’m just biting the bullet and starting over - I do have some images to help recreate it, but I had about two days of workon it (not too bad…)
Not bad for two day’s work.
It’s just that little addition to the left - I built the rest of the existing house off of photos, so I can re-do that.
It’s kind of embarrassing, though, because I have a meeting with the client in a half hour and I was going to show them how easy it is to manipulate things and speed up the process.
Rookie mistake (and I have 40 years of experience…)
Thanks!
Tim
Thanks - It’s all smoke and mirrors… I do love me my Enscape!
I find that the photo match is pretty darn good, with a couple of base dimensions.
Gotta go face the music with my clients - wish me luck (not worried)
Indeed, good luck.
Thanks - turned out that they are a few months away from needing documents and I wowed them with the image above, so I’m all set.
My cousin is married to an interior designer up in VT and she uses Canvas to document existing conditions - I’m going to give it a try and see how it works. Sounds like magic to me
