Face-me components misbehaving

Hi. I’ve got a building design with plants on it which are 2d components and which face the camera.

In the past I’ve had no trouble with an animation, including very large models, but on a recent medium large model, the face-me feature comes on and off.

This 1 minute video starts off fine, but you can see by 20 seconds it’s struggling. There’s a noticeable flip back at 42 seconds.

SU Pro 2026 running on windows 11 pro. I’ve tried different SU versions, same.

Did you create those 2D FaceMe components yourself, did you import them from 3D Warehouse?

SketchUp 2026 (26.2.243), Win 10.

Mix of both. They work perfectly in other animations and when orbiting this model

If you share the model, I am guessing someone can figure the issue out… as it is, all anyone can do is guess.

I think the face me components start to fail if they are nested too heavily - have a look and see if this applies to any of yours

Thanks peeps. The model is vast (250GB) too big to share (also contains some location giveaways, it’s a very controversial proposal locally…we’re proposing a no-demolition alternative for a tower block where people are under threat of eviction). BTW size hasn’t been a problem on other larger models

250GB

are you sure?

but that certainly sounds like they are probably nested down quite far if it’s even a large 250mb model .

We were testing this issue. Could you make the video be available again?

If SU Team could fix this issue before 3D Basecamp in November, it would help me with my talk.

Hi there Guys.

We took it down coz it’s locally controversial.

The face-me problem video is below.

Cheers, Hugh

Thanks. Is the problem you’re pointing out that the trees are not visible as you transition to one scene, and then suddenly appear when transitioning to the next scene?

So the trees don’t keep facing the camera, is that right? Are they nested into other groups or components? If you cut them and paste in place at the root level of the model, do they work better? Do they work if you use classic graphics engine?

Here’s where I’m seeing it — making nested FaceMe components.

I find them mostly broken under new graphics engine, but not under classic graphics engine on both my Mac desktop SU Pro (Version 26.1.257) and the iPad version (Version 8.2.1 (3289).

Here are some demo videos:

Another use case example:

Correct. The original post still stands. The problem is intermittent. It could be my graphics card, IDK if SU farms out the face-me feature to that though. I tried various nesting options. Didn’t help.
