Export Scene to 2D DWG

Yeah, I wouldn’t think the output would be any different, but it was for me.

I have been doing some backups and updates and what not since yesterday, so my machine has been freshly rebooted a couple of times.
I just started a new file from scratch on the free web version. Just made a cube and pushed a few circles in and out of it. Very basic.
Then I created three random scenes.
Then I went to each scene and exported it.
The resulting .dwgs were all identical.

I am attaching all of the relevant files here.

I have the sketchup file: Web Export Example.skp
Three .jpgs of the three scenes created: Scene 1.jpg, Scene 2.jpg, Scene 3.jpg
The three exports: Web Export Example-1.dwg, Web Export Example-2.dwg, Web Export Example-3.dwg
Then an image of the three exports having been imported side by side into a file I was working on: imported dwgs.jpg

I did the same thing on the desktop version, and everything functioned exactly as I am used to: I was asked for a file name at each export and each exported scene was unique and corresponded to the scene shown on the screen at the time of export.

I have not provided examples of it working.

(The forum seems to be down at the moment, though it says I can just reply in email? Hopefully, this will work?)

Awesome; thanks for the detail, screenshots (it looks like you are on a Safari browser), and sample files. I’ll take a crack at reproducing this myself and keep this thread in the loop.

Yes. macOS Catalina, 10.15.5
late 2013 MBP, 13" Retina
Safari 13.1.1

Is there any other data that might be useful?

You will notice that the exported DWGs seem to be the same as the first scene. This seems to be consistent. When I was trying to get an export from my actual project, I noticed that the exported DWGs all matched my second scene. In that case, however, that second scene was the first one created, but I change the order. For what it’s worth.

Hi, I have the same problem too. Couldn’t export the view I want into Dwg. Did you have a chance to find out the reason?

Thanks!

Are you using the free web version?

No. I subscribed the pro SketchUp. Just Feel using it via web is easier for me. I zoomed out the model quick a bit, then I was able to get a correct view DWG file. But I did spent an hour to keep trying with different ways. So I still don’t know what happened.

So you are using SketchUp Shop? Maybe you could put that in your forum profile.

It would be interesting to see your model so we could give it a try ourselves and see what we get.

I am having the same issue, but slightly different. Every time I export from Sketchup Shop to .dwg 2D, it’s exporting the same scene, even though I keep trying to export from distinct scenes in my model. Some of the scenes are section cuts, and when I select the option to export “Section Slice,” it works, but it doesn’t give me any of my dimension strings, which I need. Then when I switch back to 2D, it keeps reverting to an export of the same view over and over… Did anyone get anywhere with this?

I guess I should note that I have done this many many times before with no issue, but now it’s being buggy for some reason. I also don’t open in CAD, I’m opening in Illustrator.

Useful thread, I was going to post the same query but figured it out.

In Sketchup for Web, not only do you need to switch scene, you need to get Sketchup to save again prior to exporting the next scene. I found the easiest way was to update the scene, which then creates a new save point. Once you’ve saved, when you export again it will now export the next scene.

I found that if you don’t create the save point, then you just keep exporting the same scene even if you have clicked onto another one.
