Export outlines only DWG

Hey!

I’m trying to turn a sketchup model into a 2D DWG.

The problem is that SU exports all outlines of all faces. Is there a way to export the outlines of volumes only? I have quite a few complex chairs for example that show up with a lot of stray lines.

As an example, I’ll attach a screenshot that shows two versions of the same sink: one is the original and the other one is manually cleaned up.

I’m grateful for any advice on this.

Hello, do you use smooth on your objects / components ?

other wise you can also uncheck edges and check profile in the style panel before exporting (or in view > edge styles)

for future projects, remember you can also set 3D and 2D tags so that every component has a simplified 2D version of it when exporting plans

Hi Paul,

thanks a lot! I used the view > edge styles and that already cut the file size in half.

Could you point me in a direction to find out more about your suggestion to create 3D and 2D layers? I am not familiar with that feature and would like to read about it.

here is a quick example with a chair. Inside the component, two groups/components, one on a tag named “3D” the other one “2D”. That way you can quickly switch between the two of them whether you want to export a plan or work in sketchup.

you can of course set up a more sophisticated tag structure (those two layers could be joined in a “furniture” tag folder)

component layers

Brilliant, thanks!
