Export only surface of model composed of multiple layers?

Dear all,

I am new to Sketchup.

I received a digital elevation model (DEM) in skp format. The file also contains the abutments of the bridge that I am studying.

I’d like to export the surface elevation so that I can use it in a GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS). I found a procedure where I first have to export the model in 3ds format and then convert the new file to xyz format using Mehlab (open source).

The problem I am facing with this procedure is that all the points in the model are exported (also the points corresponding to underlying layers), which results to a false DEM. Indeed, the bridge intersects the DEM (ie. there are two components) and a part of it is invisible. When the DEM is above the bridge, I’d like to keep the DEM, and when the bridge is above the DEM, I’d like to keep the bridge. The rest should be removed.

Is there a way to export only the surface of my model ?

Thanks for your support.

Sharing a copy of the original SKP model file you received would help us help you.

There’s a plugin which can export a CSV file of the xyz coordinates directly from SketchUp.
