Ooh, ooh! She could cover the entire top surface of the cabinet with a sheet of steel (not stainless; most stainless, like my refrigerator and cook stove, has too much nickel in it to be magnetic), and before gluing it down, get it powder coated. OR, if she didn’t want to glue it down, she could have several sheets, one for the sea, one for the land, or . . .

but if you don’t want to go magnetic, then yeah, a thin disc of cement. like a miniature base (warhammer & such)should stabilise it a bit.

Julia says she’s using metal shavings/powder that seems to be sufficient. I belong to an HO scale model railroad club and we use lead to achieve proper weight on rolling stock. Some of the guys have made plaster molds in which they cast molten lead to precise shapes to fit the cars. I’m thinking if whatever metal Julia uses isn’t sufficient, she might try lead.

Guys, guys, you don’t need to solve anything. Putting the lead shavings and iron powder for filling the gaps has already fixed it. I can poke and tilt the turbine quite a bit without it falling over. You can compare the 104 g metal ballast foundation to the older 36 g concrete ballast foundation that tips as soon as I take the the wire stripper off
