When I save a file to the cloud from the Sketchup web version, I’m not seeing the edits appear on my iPad. I’m on the free plan, but as far as I understand the iPad should work as a viewer.
The issue feels like a bug because the preview image WILL update and the updated date will show up as the newest save date, but when I open the file on the iPad it shows the original version of the model.
If I “duplicate” the file from the web version, the new file shows up on the iPad with latest changes, but then if I make an edit to that file it only updates the preview and the timestamp. Opening the file still then only shows that files original version.
I can’t imagine it is supposed to work this way, but also if it is this broken I have a hard time believing it is just happening to me.
I’d like to purchase a proper subscription so I can work on the iPad as well, but not if this is actually how it works.
How it works is explained here:
This requires a SketchUp Go subscription.
Are you within the iPad App 7 day trial period, or are you using the iOS Mobile Viewer ?
At the moment I’m just trying to use the free “viewer” features of the iPad app.
I don’t want to use up the 7 day free trial if there are issues that won’t let my changes sync correctly.
Hello @johncaruso, thank you for flagging this, it is something we’re looking into improving on iPad.
In the meantime, if, on the iPad viewer, you use the overflow (three dot) menu on the file and enable ‘make available offline’ for your file, this should keep it synchronized, including the thumbnail.

Thanks! Using “make available offline” did fix the thumbnail and gave me the latest version of the model.
I also just created a new project, and without setting “make available offline” it was much better with picking up changes from the web upon opening it on the iPad, but the thumbnail was still the original thumbnail. So it is much better now at least, the thumbnail is less important to me than ensuring that the model itself is up to date.
@johncaruso that’s great to hear! I can tell you that we are definitely working on getting those thumbnails to synchronize consistently, however in the meantime its great to hear you’re having more success with your workflow!
