Is there a way to quickly convert a DWG to a 3d model, without tracing the entire drawing. I am a total noobie at sketch up and need this done rather quickly for my church renovation project. I could learn but with 2 kids and all kinds of church responsibilities, my time is stretched thin. Thanks in advance.
There is unfortunately no automatic way to make a 3D model out of a 2D drawing. There is a free plugin called Find Faces that will take a set of lines like an imported CAD drawing and fill all closed loops within it with faces that can then be push/pulled to a 3D thickness. A similar result can be achieved by drawing a large rectangular face under the linework and then using the Drape command (sandbox tools) to project the linework on the surface.
