Hi, I was experiencing some difficulty running sketchup problably because of the size file and I try to purge it and at the same time made some update on extension and when I closed and reopened the file the drawing was gone. All my style, material, component and scène are there but no drawing. When I open it with sketchup 2024 the drawing is there. When I open another file with sketchup 2025 it’s OK. I certainly did something I should not have when trying to resolve the problem.
Did you try renaming the .skb file to .skp to see if it would open correctly?
Where have you been saving the file while working on it? Were you also saving it to your Trimble Connect storage?
Please update your forum profile. It shows you are using SketchUp 2021.
Yes I try to open the skb with sketchup and it didn’t work. I did not rename the skb with skp. I save it directly on my desktop. That is the part where I really don’t know what I’m doing….
You would need to change the file extension from .skb to .skp in order for SketchUp to open it directly.
Share the .skp file so we can see what you’ve got. Maybe it can be recovered.
When I opened your file this is what I see.
Are you expecting something else?
I’ll go through it and do my standard cleanup procedure to see if I can make it more responsive.
Ok….. on my side I dont see the drawing at all…. could it be related with the updates
I did with my extensions?
I doubt it. What extensions did you update?
Have you tried using Zoom Extents?
Fixed incorrect tag usage. ALL edges and faces should be created and remain untagged.
Purged unused content. No point hoarding all the components and materials.
There is also a huge number of excessively large texture images. They just slow your model down without providing any benefit.
It’s still a huge file but it plays more nicely on my machine.
I tried the zoom extend with no luck and I think the update where on scan essentiels and Revit ( I don,t even know why I have a revit extension)
I know…I need to learn more about the purging part…. Can you resend it on another name see if I can open it.
Those shouldn’t have any impact on the visibility of the objects in your model.
I’ll send it back shortly.
Thank you so much.
Here’s the link.
OMG I didn’t send you the good file. Here it is
OK. I’m trying to work on your other file. It’s also very slow because you’ve overloaded it.
You might get this done faster than I will. Open a new SketchUp file. In your screwed up file open Outliner. Select objects there, use Ctrl+C to copy them and then in the new file, use Edit>Paste in place to paste the copies. Do a few at a time and the hit Zoom Extents to make sure everything is coming in as expected.
Ok I’ try that. Thank you
I was able to open and see your file after deleting a lot of stuff, I couldn´t identify what were the corrupted elements cause I didn´t go deleting one by one, youvé downloaded so many things from the 3D warehouse that it could take an entire day to identify the specific element, You must never download models from the 3D warehouse directly into your main model, there are a lot of corrupted elements, and imo 98% of the models are overkill for assets, you could also use that file to place all the stuff that is spread all over the space model, I saw a cloth on the kitchen that had almost 200k entities, also the material resizer showed huge 8k textures and some of them could be replaced by flat colors. Since you have Scan essentials and Revit Importer I guess you have an Studio subscription, that includes the mentioned extension plus a V-Ray license, If you want to render for your client you should use the chaos cosmos assets and materials, they´re proxies, that means that on the viewport you´ll see a low poly textureless object but on the render it will be shown with all the geometry and textures, making your sketchup file a lot lighter and also it helps to render faster than an object with millions of entities and huge textures. If you don´t find an asset on the 3d warehouse you can create proxies out of models from the 3D WH as a last resource, just do it on an empty file, and create a folder to save the proxies you create so you can use them on future projects. I also recommend you to visit the sketchup campus website and follow a course of sketchup for desktop, your project has a lot of modeling mistakes like loose geometry that is also tagged, some reversed normals and elements that could be solids have holes on the bottom, I guess you started modeling using the 2D cad creating faces and extruding them, that´s the main reason for that problem, it´s better to use the 2D cad as a reference and model on top of it sou you don make a mess with tags, reversed faces and solid objects, walls must be solid objects if you are using sections with color fill, if its not a solid element it won´t be filled.
If you want I can share the file here if you haven´t been able to fix it, but honestly I would start from scratch, it’s not a big project, the main elements like walls, windows and doors shouldn´t take you more than 2 or 3 hours modeling them in a proper way, adding the assets from chaos will also be a lot easier than downloading from the 3D warehouse.
