I have Sketchup make 2017, and want to download 3d warehouse components. I can download them as .dae, but when I drag them to sketchup, I just get the text file. What am I doing wrong?

Use File>Import instead.
Thanks, Dave - I dragged from the download folder to desktop, then I could see it from File>Import!
Often the downloaded Collada .zip file also contains a folder with materials in it. If you aren’t also extracting that folder from the zip file you won’t get the materials.
